A new documentary, now in theaters, takes a thorough, artful look at the life and work of Meredith Monk. One of my besties, Maria, took me to see it last week and we were entranced into a conversation about women in art, criticism, collaboration and innovation that spilled on to the street afterwards and into the next day in texts.
See it if you love groovy NYC avant garde history. See it if you want to blast your brain with the life of someone entirely invested in experimentation. See it if you want to deeply know about the singer who is Bjork’s greatest influence.
Go see it soon in NYC at IFC if you can - every seat that gets filled makes a difference nowadays, and your butt may be the one that tips the scales just enough for the theater to decide to give the movie another week’s run, which then gives the film a chance to find and build it’s audience. You’re not in NY? That’s OK! The film is also screening in LA, Portland, Kosovo, Nantucket, Saugerties and a bunch of other places. Move your ass from your house and make it count!
Thanks for reading and thanks especially to my paying subscribers.
I will leave you with this gem.
